What this calculator determines

Nutrient pounds supplied per acre and total nutrient for an area, from fertilizer analysis and application rate. Can also solve for product needed to deliver a target nutrient amount.

Formula or calculation method

nutrient fraction = analysis % ÷ 100

Dry product

nutrient per acre (lb) = product rate (lb/acre) × nutrient fraction

Liquid product

nutrient per acre (lb) = gallons per acre × density (lb/gal) × nutrient fraction

total nutrient (lb) = nutrient per acre × acres

Target nutrient mode

product needed = target nutrient (lb) ÷ nutrient fraction

Definitions of inputs

  • Nutrient % — Guaranteed analysis percentage for the nutrient of interest (e.g., N, K₂O).
  • Product rate — Dry product applied per acre, in lb/acre.
  • Gallons per acre — Liquid product volume per acre.
  • Density — Liquid product weight in lb per gallon.
  • Acres — Area treated.
  • Target nutrient — Optional total nutrient amount to solve for required product.

Worked example

12-0-44 analysis (44% K₂O), 200 lb/acre product, 10 acres:

  • Nutrient fraction = 0.44
  • Nutrient per acre = 200 × 0.44 = 88 lb K₂O/acre
  • Total nutrient = 88 × 10 = 880 lb K₂O

Use totals for ordering and application planning. Confirm rates against soil tests, tissue tests, and label limits before applying. This calculator does not recommend whether a rate is appropriate for your orchard.
