How Much Spray Mix Do I Need?

What this calculator determines

Total carrier (diluent) gallons to mix for one or more orchard sections, from tree count, acreage, or row layout and your chosen spray rate.

Formula or calculation method

Gallons per tree

spray volume = total trees × gallons per tree

Gallons per acre

spray volume = acres × gallons per acre

Buffer

final volume = base volume + (base volume × buffer % ÷ 100)

Tank loads

full tanks = floor(total gallons ÷ tank size); remainder = total gallons mod tank size

Row layout area (when used to derive acres)

planted area (sq ft) = row length × row spacing × number of rows; acres = sq ft ÷ 43,560

Definitions of inputs

• Orchard section — A block or zone with its own tree count, acreage, or row dimensions.
• Gallons per tree / gallons per acre — Your calibrated or planned carrier rate (not product rate).
• Buffer % — Optional extra volume for refills or uncertainty.
• Tank size — Sprayer tank capacity for load calculations.

Worked example

Example only — not a recommendation.

A section with 500 trees at 1.5 gal/tree and a 10% buffer:

• Base volume = 500 × 1.5 = 750 gallons
• Buffer = 750 × 0.10 = 75 gallons
• Total = 825 gallons
• In a 300-gallon tank: 2 full loads + 225 gallons remainder

How to interpret the result

Use the gallon total as your mixing target before leaving the shop. Confirm coverage with your usual calibration checks (catch cups, tree-row volume, or speed and GPA). Product rates and legal limits come from the label, not this calculator.
